General Fiction/BIPOC Writers (July 2026)

Ends on

For this general call for fiction submissions, we are open to submissions from everyone, but are particularly seeking stories from self-identified BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) writers, whose communities are historically underrepresented. If you identify as BIPOC, or as member of another underrepresented group, we encourage you to tell us about yourself in your cover letter.

Submit one short story (maximum 5,000 words) at a time. The story must be saved as its own separate file in a .doc, .docx, .rtf, or .txt file format (please no PDFs). Use standard manuscript formatting (double-spaced, easily read font sizes, page numbers, etc.). All work must be previously unpublished.

When filling out the Cover Letter Field, please include your name, email address, full mailing address or details, telephone number, the title(s) of your poem(s), and a list of previous publications, if any. Please also include a brief biographical note. If you are a Canadian citizen or resident of Canada, please let us know.

To submit poetry, please go to our other Submittable category.

We will consider only one submission per writer at a time (in one genre only), excluding entries to our annual Non-Fiction Contest. Once you have received a response from us, you may submit another piece of writing.

Please also be advised, writers may only appear in EVENT once every two years, with the exception of Reviews, Notes on Writing and winning Non-Fiction Contest essays.

We use Submittable to accept and review our submissions.
